About the Project
The OpenKanban Board is a fully-featured project management tool that brings the simplicity of Kanban methodology to the web. Built as a Progressive Web App (PWA), it provides a native-like experience across all devices while maintaining the flexibility of web technologies.
Users can create multiple projects, each with its own set of columns and tasks. Tasks can be easily added, moved between columns, edited, or deleted with intuitive drag-and-drop interactions. All data is stored in Firebase Firestore, ensuring real-time synchronization across all devices and instant collaboration between team members. The project showcases modern state management patterns, real-time data synchronization, and responsive design principles.
This project began when my partner shared her need to better organize her studies and daily life. Drawing from my experience as a developer who was already familiar with Kanban methodology, I explained it to her and she was immediately interested. We explored alternatives like Notion and Trello, but found each lacking in significant ways. I decided to build a specialized open source solution that would address these needs in the best possible way. Today, I use it for my daily life, my partner uses it, and many friends and developer acquaintances use it to manage their projects. The technical decisions prioritized my favorite stack combined with free technologies to manage it, enabling me to offer it completely free to the public.
