About the Project
OpenStage is a comprehensive content creation platform designed specifically for musicians and bands. The platform enables users to generate viral short-form video clips for platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube without requiring any server-side processing. By leveraging FFmpeg WASM, all video manipulation happens directly in the browser, providing instant feedback and zero infrastructure costs.
Key features include band management with role-based access control, invite codes for collaborative work, multi-format video exports optimized for different social platforms, and local audio transcription using OpenAI's Whisper model. The platform is built with a focus on privacy and performance, ensuring that creators can work efficiently without worrying about their content being processed on third-party servers.
As the founder and full-stack developer, I initiated this project with a clear vision: to create a truly open-source solution for musicians like myself. Having experienced firsthand the challenges bands face in managing their social media presence, I identified critical deficiencies in existing tools — expensive subscriptions, data privacy concerns, and complex workflows that don't align with how musicians actually work. I approached the architecture with the constraint that everything must remain free to use, which drove key technical decisions: using FFmpeg WASM for client-side video processing to eliminate server costs, leveraging Supabase for scalable backend without infrastructure overhead, and choosing Vercel for deployment with their generous free tier. This open-source-first approach ensures that the platform remains accessible to independent artists while maintaining professional-grade capabilities.
